Title
Three-strand wampum necklace
Description
Artist Statement:
"This necklace was inspired by the traditional multi-strand wampum necklaces. The aim of this piece is to create something that would help Eastern Woodlands relatives feel connected to their ancestors. [In] many historic pictures of Eastern Woodland leaders or distinguished individuals, [they] wear these necklaces. It was often common for leadership in the community to be gifted wampum beads. Sometimes these beads would be used in ceremony, wampum belts, regalia, and trade."
