Wampum Warrior necklace

Description

Artist Statement:
"The inspiration for this piece comes from the Native American experience. Indigneous people have to constantly fight discrimination and violence and constantly explain and advocate for their culture. In this way, there is a warrior within each Indigenous person today. It is often a struggle to simply exist. Resiliency is in our blood which is why we stand here today. However, we live in a world where we are forced to live in a society that doesn't understand us. We constatly have to protect our communities, our culture, and our people. In this way we find we all at some point in our lives as Indigenous people play that role as warrior for our people. This necklace honors that inner warrior and that responsibility of knowing when to fight and when to be a peacemaker."
